Some of the significant differences between the KZ and the KZ include that the has a heavier crankshaft for less engine vibration, smoother acceleration and a larger displacement.

The received a rear disc brake. There were various configurations of specifications and assembly, such as having the choice between chain-drive and shaft-drive. Kawasaki swapped the traditional exhaust available on Z1 and KZ for the Jardine exhaust on the LTD and quiet and restrictive muffler on the A1 and A2 as shown in the top photo in this article.

The frame on the KZ was a conventional featherbed duplex cradle design, but was not significantly changed in over 30 years of production. The model was designated KZR2 with cams and a cylinder head from the GPzB2, boosted power from to at rpm. The bike had a limited run ofand was named after the Eddie Lawson Superbike.

The front tire is size MN, and the back tire is size MR The KZ had optional dealer installed Windjammer brand fairing, saddle bags, sissy bar and highway bars.

Highway bars were also used for comfort on long trips and sometimes held additional lighting. Styling characteristics are the front fairing, black engine finish, the 4-into-1 factory exhaust system and cast wheels. Following the success of the original Z, Kawasaki developed the "Z1-R" as a new top model that would set standards in design and performance.

This emphasized motorcycle with a fixed half-shell fairing was only available with a metallic silver-blue paint. Although the design was well received from the potential buyers, sales remained unsatisfactory after tests in motorcycle magazines. They criticized the poor engine performance and the small fuel tank. Magazine tests showed all three competing bikes to be quicker in the [ quarter mile] performance test. In response, the company quickly introduced the semi-production, turbocharged Z1R-TC.

They had a number of technical problems, including electromagnetic interference between some radios that caused problems for the ignition system. That said, with a relatively light weight, comfortable seat, good cornering clearance and powerful engine, it remained so popular for the police market that it remained in production until Fourteen of the motorcycles in Mad Max were Zs.

The bikes were donated by a local Kawasaki dealer and modified in appearance by Melbourne business La Parisienne; one as a police bike ridden by 'The Goose', and thirteen for members of the Toecutter's gang, played by a real motorcycle club called the Vigilantes. The CX was wound up because of the design of the engine. It is a twin and an odd one at that. The KZ is an inline 4 which makes for a much smoother running engine. On the highway doing 75mph you would be pulling around rpm but will would still be very smooth. It is a heavier bike so it will fell more solid at speed.

The KZ shaft is a great bike for long distance travel. I say go for it and give your mom the Silverwing.

I recently sold off my TLS because my fiance needed college money and I was pretty well done with her anyway.

To keep a ride in the stable i picked up a CX I love vintage bikes. My only problem with this bike is that it's so wound up just going 70mph Topping out at mph is ok She's great for slow community commuting, just not ideal for the highway. Enter the KZ. My mother called me up and said she'd decided to get a bike of her own so I started looking for something suitable for her. Surprise surprise So plan is to sell my CX off to my mother Only problem is that this bike is shaft drive, too.

I know the bigger bike is going to be tuned a bit more for the highway, but by how much? My CX is so wound up because the speed limit at the time was 55mph and this KZ is the same era. Now I'm not a speed junky I'm actually more of a slow junky.

I just want something that's nice and calm while doing the highway bit but can get well into the triples if I get to feeling frisky on the long straight roads here in the panhandle. Harley Davidson- Turning gas into noise without the harmful affects of horsepower for over years.

It's not the design of the engine It's a smooth engine all the way to the top. It's just geared for the days when the signs said 55mph was all you could do. It isn't a 'twin" thing I came from a TLThe item selected will only fit the motorcycles listed. Please select your bike here to see all the parts that fit your motorcycle. In Stock. Clean as a whistle, and runs beautifully. No cracks or fading on the seat, no fading on the dials. You have to see it to believe how amazing this machine is, pictures really don't do it justice. The only thing this bike will need in the future is intake boots, but it is nothing that is an immediate issue.

Electric start fires right up. Bike is shaft drive. Exhaust was replaced very recently with a Delkevic 4 into 1 system. In beautiful shape, and sounds gorgeous.

I still have original exhaust, which is in good shape. Carbs just cleaned and synced, petcock rebuilt as well. Comes with new all-weather cover just replaced a month ago, as well as several extra oil and air filters. Original exhaust is included as well. Any questions or to see the bike, just contact me. Vented fairing lowers to keep legs cool on hot days. Cruise control. CB intercom. All were short lived and were an attempt to fill a market segment that was rapidly changing. It was officially marketed as the GPz B1.

Cycle World stated " To reduce weight, the tube walls were thinner. The B2 featured a cockpit fairing, the use of LCD warning lights and improved engine coating using a black chrome finish instead of the previous black paint. Kawasaki was serious about having the best Superbike, and the B2 was changed in several significant ways over its predecessor.

The engine output was increased by increasing the valve lift from 8. The new system did not use an airflap to measure airflow, but a digital microprocessor, a series of sensors, and a throttle position sensor to meter the fuel much more accurately, eliminate throttle lag, and decrease emissions. The suspension calibration was all-new forto make the big GPz an even better handler both on the track and on the street. In the rear, the Kayaba shocks used the same springs, but with greater pre-load, and the compression damping was effectively doubled.

Wider, Dunlop K tires replaced the Bridgestone tires used on the B1 to improve handling and steering response. In a new GPz design was released that featured Unitrack single suspension, anti-dive units on the forks and a major styling overhaul often called the "swish" look. Known as the ZXA1 model, the model featured a larger fairing with a lower fairing section as an option to give a full race fairingdifferent instrumentation and a warning panel mounted on the redesigned petrol tank.

This model contained many features that were to appear on the GPzR model leading to the suspicion that it was used to test the acceptability of newer technology such as Unitrack and Anti-Dive forks and the newer styling. The model featured the new Alpha-N DFI design with modifications, such as an IAT intake air temp inclusion of a warning light that flashed service codes when the DFI system was having a problem, a rev-limiter, and a 'limp' mode that would allow the engine to keep running if one of the sensors failed.

The engine design changed in the model to use underbucket shims similar to the z and the camshaft duration was increased from degrees to degrees, and the valve lift increased from 8. To flow more air, the head was revised extensively from the earlier model, featuring new ports, a 'bathtub' combustion chamber borrowed from their own S2 racer, and a 1mm larger intake valve recessed into the head slightly for valve clearance.

Motorcycle Classics reported "Cycle took the revised GPz to the strip and restored its crown as the fastest in a straight line, with a standing quarter that broke into the 10s. In the last GPz was released, competition from sales of the GPzR released in had surpassed the GPz, so the was discontinued.

The model deviated little from the model but featured a new paint scheme called "Galaxy Silver"; the original Firecracker Red scheme was still available. Revisions were minor and include a revised exhaust system and the addition of panels under the instrument cluster. Sales were now in direct competiotion to the smaller, lighter, water-cooled GPzR model, which in would win first and second place in the cc Production race at the Isle of Man TT.

There is no similarity between the later models officially designated as ZXE and any earlier models. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Motorcycle Classics.
